Summer 2007 Internship Opportunity

The Center for Environmental Health needs your help.  CEH relies on the support of interns to fulfill our mission to reduce the public’s toxic chemical exposures. CEH gives its interns a high level of responsibility and recognizes that the rewards of working for a non-profit organization are the experience and challenge of being an active participant. Check out our website at www.cehca.org

Some examples of the help we need:

  • Conducting research on corporate practices and possible health hazards. This might include searching the Web, tracking down articles, or contacting public interest groups and scientists.
  • Following up on specific issues to define alternative, non-harmful corporate practices for us to advocate.
  • Networking, assisting with correspondence, following up on contacts, and contacting our supporters.
  • Writing press releases, brochures, and/or educational documents.
  • Helping to manage all day-to-day affairs at the CEH office, such as answering phones, sending mailings, general administration, and filing.
  • Assisting Development Director with fundraising activities.

We are looking for interns to assist:

  • Our Pollution Prevention Program.  An intern will help harness the healthcare sector’s purchasing power to widen the market for sustainable electronics;
  • Our Public Policy Program.  An intern will help us facilitate the work of a statewide coalition that is working to create a long-term, viable apparatus to advocate for precautionary regulation of chemicals in California.
  • Our Public Interest Litigation Program.  An intern will help us conduct research for our public interest suits against stubborn, corporate polluters.

We are a small, diverse group with a big mission.  In the past, interns have sometimes been awarded academic credit for their work at CEH.  We are looking for interns willing to work full time during the summer months.  Other arrangements can be negotiated.  The internship is unpaid, but you will receive a stipend to offset transportation expenses.

Please apply as soon as possible.  To apply send a resume, cover letter, short writing sample (2 pages max), and the names and phone numbers of three references.  Submit to internship@cehca.org or mail to: CEH, 528 61st Street Suite A, Oakland, CA 94609.  We prefer email.  Please put “summer internship” in the subject line of your email or on your envelope.  After June 1, 2007, please call before applying.

People of color, women, and LGBTI individuals strongly encouraged to apply.
