What We Do

What We Do

Cancer.  Developmental disabilities.  Infertility.  Birth defects.  Diabetes.

The problem is serious:  powerful industries invent, manufacture, and use dangerous and untested chemicals that are making people sick.

This sweeping problem is the field where industries, laws, governments, communities, and consumers all overlap.  At the Center for Environmental Health we work at each of these connections to confront the problem from all angles at once.

Our Public Interest Litigation Program uses California's Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act (Proposition 65) to eliminate toxics from industrial emissions and consumer products.

Our Community Health Program supports the communities that suffer the worst effects of chemical pollution.

Our Public Policy Program teams up with other effective organizations, public health experts, community groups, academics, and public officials to help the government develop and enforce sensible measures to protect people from dangerous chemicals.

Finally, our Green Electronics and Sustainable Food Programs work with ethical businesses to clean up two enormous industries whose production, distribution, consumption, and disposal have an enormous but little-known impact on our most precious resource:  our health.

Please explore our website and learn about the smart and strategic work that is protecting your family and your community from toxic chemicals.

Did you know... Hospitals are a major source of pollution. See what CEH is doing to help.

Protecting Babies from Lead in Vinyl Bibs

The Center for Environmental Health forced Wal-Mart and Toys R Us to remove lead-contaminated baby bibs from store shelves. Going a step further, Toys R Us removed all vinyl bibs from its stores, protecting children not only from lead, but also from phthalates and other toxic chemicals in vinyl. See what else we’ve accomplished in our first 10 years.
